Wrestling with WordPress
I am setting up a blog to chronicle Suri’s training and adventures. It’s been a Long Time since I’ve used WordPress, and the available functionality has grown extensively since then. I want Suri to have a great website, so I am incorporating responsive design (layout for desktop, tablet and mobile), plus trying to get the specific look and layout that I envision. Going from my vision, to what can be readily supported with a free WP Theme, has been challenging to say the least.
I am learning a lot about modern theme design and customization, which is good. But it takes time (in some cases, an inordinate amount of time 🙄), which is suboptimal, though not surprising.
In order to test my layout and blog archive pages I needed to have more blog posts and general content, so I decided that writing a meta-level, pre-puppy arrival, blog post would both fit into the plan to document the whole puppy blog/training/adventure experience, as well as provide me with more test content.
Suri comes home in two weeks; I really hope I have the website and blog up and running by then! 😬
Techy details – I went with Hostinger for the domain setup and hosting, and WordPress for the blog. I’ve been trying different free WP Themes, and so far my favorite is Kadence. It offers detailed customization and useful social feed widgets, among other things.
